Diazepam

A

Orally, IM (delayed). Bound to plasma proteins.
Metabolism : demethylation, conjugation —> excreted via kidney (entero-helatic circulation, first metabolite = active).

Use : premedication & combo (ketamine), mm relaxation, prevention & control of epilepsy, sedation

SE : paradoxical reaction (cat, greyhound), inhibition of resp (aminoglycosides). DONT use before and during delivery & when preexisting liver diseases (hepatotoxicity - cats**)

Dose : sedation 1-1,5 mg/kg PO
pre-medication 0,2 mg/kg IV
status epilepticus 5-10 mg/dog IV ,then 2-5mg/h IV inf)

Midazolam

A

Shorter eff -> less sedation

Dose : 0,05-0,2 mg/kg IV (horse) ,
0,1-0,5 mg/kg IV , 0,3-1 mg/kg IM(dogs,cats)
