TCAs

A

Amitryptiline, Clomipramine, Doxepine, Imipramine

Action : inhibition of Ser & NA reuptake
Pharmacokinetics : oral absorption, high availability. Binds to albumin.

SE : occasional vomiting, changes in appetite / lethargy, antimuscarinic eff, urinary retention. DONT use in case of pre-existing CV dysfunction, otherwise : epilepsy, hypersensitivity

Indications : separation anxiety, fe urine spraying, stereotypes, acral lick dermatitis

Fluoxetine, Fluvoxamine, Sertraline

Action : selective inhibition of Ser reuptake
Pharmacokinetics : oral absorption, high availability. Alb binding
SE : occasional vomiting, diarrhea, incr CYP450 activity.
Severe hepatic / renal impairment, DM, epilepsy.

Indications : stereotypes, aggression, depression, fear, separation anxiety, fe urine spraying

Action : decr IC metabolism of adrenaline, NA, prolonged NT action
Pharmacokinetics : low oral bioavailability

SE : GI signs (salivation, vomiting diarrhea), behavioral changes, excitements.

Indications : stereotypes, aggression, old dogs (changes in cognitive function), old cats (vocalisation
