Keratocanthoma
What is keratocanthoma?
Benign epithelial tumour
Often see telangiectasia
Will have rapid growth followed by a plateau and then will regress spontnaeously in 3 months
Hard to distinguish from SCC so must urgently be excised
What is this?
Actinic Keratosis
What is Actinic Keratosis?
Pre-malignant skin lesions
Can develop into SCC
Small, crusty or scaly lesions
Typically on sun exposed areas of body e.g. hand and head
Are rough, sore, irritable
Can spontaneously regress
What is this?
Bowen’s disease
(intraepidermal carcinoma or SCC in situ)
What is Bowen’s disease?
Pre-cancer that has not penetrated basement membrane
Asymptomatic slow growing
Scaly erythematous plaque or patch
Normally single lesion
Common on lower limbs, head and neck
More common in women
What is this?
Dermatofibroma
Benign nodule of fibrous tissues
Commonly found on lower legs
Can occur after insect bite or prick from thorn
What is this?
Neurofibroma
Solitary=common nervous sheath tumour
Skin coloured nodule
Smooth surface
Common in young adults
What is this?
Epidermoid cyst
Occurs in sites with little hair e.g. face/neck/trunk
Yellowish coloured
Central punctum (black dot) may be present
Contents are malodourous
What is this?
Pilar Cyst
Known as trichilemmal cyst
One or more firm/mobile/SC nodules
Originates from hair root
Painful if inflammed
What is this?
Strawberry naevus
Aka Capillary haemangioma
Develop shortly after birth due to overgrowth of blood vessels
Improve/regress with time
What is this?
Cherry Angioma
Benign overgrowth of cutaneous venules
Arises in adult life
Do not need treatment
