What are features of congenital naevi?
Present at birth
Typically >1cm
Can have increased hair growth
Bumpy texture
Increased risk of malignant transformations
What is this?
Junctional naevus
What are features of a junctional naevus?
Are at the epidermal-dermal junction
Light brown and uniformaly pigmented
More common on trunk an extremeties
What is this?
Compound naevus
What are feature sof compound naevus?
Cross epidermal dermal junction into dermis
Increase in number throughout childhood and regress as you get older
Varying degrees of elevation
Light brown/brown colour
What is this?
Intradermal naevus
What are features of intradermal naevus?
In the dermal area
Elevated
Light brown/flesh coloured
Can be smooth
What is this?
Atypical naevus
What are features of atypical naevi?
Known risk factor for melanoma and to a lesser extent a precursor
Common features
- Diameter >5mm
- Asymmetrical
- Variably pigmented
- irregular/poorly defined border
- flat/raised
