what are freckles (ephelis)?
= patchy increase in melanin pigmentation (happens after sun exposure)
what are actinic lentigenes?
= known as ageing or liver spots
- related to long term UV exposure
what are congenital melanocytic naevi?
visible pigmented moles present at birth (birthmarks) - they’re junctional naevi (naevus cells cluster at dermoepidermal junction)
what are usual type naevi?
normal moles, compound naevi (means naevus cells cluster at epidermal junction & upper dermis)
what are dysplastic naevi?
moles that have varied pigment border
what is seborrhoeic keratosis?
= benign proliferation of epidermal keratinocytes (also called basal cell papilloma)
what is leser-trelat sign?
when abrupt appearance of loads of seborheic keratosis = indicates underlying malignancy
what is dermatofibroma?
= proliferation of fibroblasts induced by reaction to insect bite or minor trauma (more common in immunosuppressed)
