1 - immunology & biochem Flashcards
1
Q
what immune cells does epidermis have?
A
langerhan cells = antigen presenting cells (characterised by birbeck granule with tennis racquet shape)
2
Q
what immune cell are in dermis?
A
- dendritic cells (antigen presenting, rotate between skin & lymph nodes)
- T cells (CD4 helper, CD8 killer)
- also macrophages, neutrophils & mast cells
3
Q
reminder - what do Th1, Th2, Th17 do?
A
these are all CD4+ helper T cells
- Th1 = activate macrophages
- Th2 = help B cells (secrete IL 4,5,13)
- Th17 = modulate skin & mucosal immunity (secrete IL 17)
4
Q
what interleukins made in atopic dermatitis (eczema)?
A
IL 4 & IL 13 (secreted by Th2 and mast cells)
5
Q
what cytokines released in psoriasis?
A
TNF alpha, IL 17, IL 23
