Benign Mesenchymal Tumors Part 3 Flashcards
Structural anomaly of blood vessels (normal endothelial cell turnover)
Vascular malformation
Clinical features of vascular malformations
- Port wine stain (capillaries)
- Venous malformation (blue)
- Arteriovenous malformation (bruit, thrill)
What is important about the growth of vascular malformations? Why is it important?
Grows proportionately with the patient - allows differentiation between lesions that will resolve and ones that are permanent
Is diascopy pathognomonic for vascular malformations?
No
2 oral considerations for port wine stain
- Hemorrhage may be encountered (flossing/prophy may be difficult – difficult to do surgery)
- Lasers may be helpful in removing hyperplastic lesions
Encephalotrigeminal angiomatosis (Sturge-Weber anomaly)
Congenital abnormality, not inherited or genetic
What is encephalotrigeminal angiomatosis
Dermal capillary vascular malformation that affects superficial and deeper tissues in the region of cranial nerve V
