What is paid time off?

An employee who is absent without supervisory approval (unpaid time off) has a non excused absence, is subject to what disciplinary action (no call no show)?
For the 1st instance….the employee gets a written reprimand.
2nd. ..(within 6 months of the 1st absence), the employee can receive 3 days of suspension.
3rd. ..(6 months from the 1st), the employee can be dismissed from employment.
5 consecutive work days, or 40 consecutive work hours, or two (2) consecutive work shifts or 48 hours for firefighters or more is considered abandonment of employment.

What is holiday pay for fire?
Shift personnel are paid 11.2 hrs at their effective hourly rate.
What is vacation time?
Vacation time includes all periods of approved absence with pay which are not chargeable to another paid time off category.
How is vacation accrued for fire?
Years zero through two: 5hrs per pay period. (26) pay periods=130hrs. (In Jan…4.4 hrs added)
Years two+: 7.5 hrs per pay period. (26) pay periods=195hrs (in Jan…6.6 hrs added)
What is the maximum accumulation of vacation time?
336hrs for shift workers.
Vacation pay out starts after Dec 31, if 112 hrs have been used.
What happens to the vacation time if a member is separated from the city?
Employee is paid for all unused time.
What is sick time?
Sick time includes all periods of approved absence with pay granted an employee due to:
Illness or injury, which renders the employee unable to perform the duties of the position. Minor, non disabling injuries and illnesses do not qualify an employee for sick time.
Disability caused by pregnancy, childbirth, miscarriage.
Illness, injury, examination or treatment (by a Dr.) of the employees immediate family. (In laws, stepchildren, step-parentinlaws, and legal guardian of adults count)
Bereavement time is allowed
How is sick time accrued?
Fire personnel working a 24hr shift get 5 hrs per pay period, 26 pay periods=130hrs.
Fire personnel working shift must work 54hrs in a biweekly pay period.
What is the max accumulation of sick hours?
1456hrs for fire shift workers
Anything over this is converted 1 to 1, sick to vaca
What happens to sick time if an employee is terminated?
Forfeiture of all accumulated sick time
Can sick time be transferred between employee’s? (Time donation)
Nope….that’s vacation silly
How many hrs are allowed for fire shift personnel with regards to bereavement?
48 or two consecutive shifts
If an employee gets injured at work and qualifies for the Industrial Insurance Program, what happens when the employee has to go back on industrial for the same injury?
The employee’s benefits will be based on the the pay range and step at the time of the original injury (suck).
