What are Values

A

Values are deeply held beliefs about what is important, desirable, or morally right or wrong.

Examples: honesty, love, care

What are Attitudes

A

Attitudes refer to a person’s feelings toward a particular object, person, group, event, or idea. often negative or positive opinions

A

Cognitive: thoughts and beliefs people hold

Affectionate: emotional feelings

Behavioural: predispositions to act in certain ways

Relationship between Beliefs, Values & Attitudes

A

Beliefs are translated into attitudes through values.

Values are instilled into individuals at a young age (media, religion, social setting)

If a belief is proven incorrect or correct, it will influence attitudes and then ultimately behaviour

How does media influence Beliefs, Values & Attitudes

A

Aims to change peoples’ beliefs with a hope it will influence their attitude toward a product or service. Attitudes can then affect intention. The media tries to get us to believe them by providing us with evidence, justification, proof, use celebrities and suggest a cost benefit.

Using:
Opportunities: persuade consumers that they have limited opportunity so they must act quick or miss out.

Incentives:You must expect a certain outcome from this product

Barriers:The media sells solutions to barriers.

A

Refers to a widely accepted standard or expectation of behaviour within a particular society or group.
