Behaviourism (bellamy) Flashcards
Reinforcement
Anything that strengthens a response and increases the likelihood that it will occur again
Positive reinforcement
Receiving a reward when a certain behaviour is performed, making this behaviour more likely to be repeated
Negative reinforcement
Doing something in order to escape an unpleasant situation, repeating it becomes a bad habit
Punishment
Where behaviour is less likely to occur again because it is followed by an unpleasant consequence
Classical conditioning
Process by which a neutral stimulus is paired with an unconditioned stimulus to eventually produce a conditioned response
Operant conditioning
Process of learning through reinforcement and punishment, if a behaviour is followed by a desirable consequence, behaviour is more likely to occur again
Timing
The condoning does not take place if the NS and US are done with a large time interval
Extinction
If the CS is used continually without the US, the association will be forgotten
Stimulus generalisation
If a sound similar to the NS is heard, it will have a conditioned response
Spontaneous recovery
If the association is forgotten, when the NS and US are together again, CR is learnt again
