What was skinners experiment
OPERANT CONDITIONING
- in one condition the floor was giving the rat an electric current all the time, when you press the lever the electric current went away
- in another condition the rat got a treat every time it press the lever
- In another condition the rat got an electric shock every time he pressed the lever
Reinforcement meaning
The process of encouraging a behaviour because you want the behaviour to continue
Positive reinforcement
Something good is given to you which makes behaviour more likely to occur
Negative reinforcement
Something bad is taken away from you as a reward for good behaviour so you will continue this behaviour
Positive punishment
Something bad is given to you as a result of your bad behaviour
negative punishment
Something good is taken away from you as a result of bad behaviour
Example of where operant conditioning can be used for robbery
positive, all the money and goods
negative, The sense of anxiety of not having enough money to feed the family is now taken away
