The first step in behaviour change is what?
A
- understanding the cause of the behaviour
- note: The causes or determinants of the behaviour are the most important things that need to change in order to achieve behaviour change.

- Personal factors (like belief, personality)
- Interpersonal factors (like relationships that influence you)
- Environmental factors (make it easy or difficult to perform the behaviour e.g. high prices, reduced access and resources, lack of security, cultural practices and value systems)
- Policy/Regulation factors (encourage or discourage the behaviour e.g. Lack of: Public health regulations, civil laws and regulations, institutional policies, workplace policies)

Strategies for managing behaviour change?
A
- Identify the behaviour to be changed
- Determine the barriers
- Take steps to remove or reduce barriers
- Involve the target population person in planning the change.
- Include strategies that can build self efficacy (important for lasting change)
- Involve significant others in the change plan.
- Recognise that change is a process (it takes time)
