Behavior Flashcards
Occurs when a learner associates a previously meaningless response with one that already evokes a response. Results in responses the animal does not consciously controls, such as emotions, reflexes, and secretions
Classical conditioning
Intrinsic to the animal so no training needed for this response (what makes the pet salivate or purr)
(UR) unconditioned response
Once the UR is figured out it can be paired with the goal of a
(CS) conditioned stimulus
Intrinsic =
Natural
A interventional technique to replace an existing response
Counter conditioning
Gradually introducing a stimulus to a learner that the Learner does not respond to is called ____________. Very gradually increasing a stimulus intensity over a repeated exposure.
Desensitization
What is the goal of desensitization?
To develop a nonresponse or a favorable response in an animal to a particular stimulus.
Occurs when the animal develops a stronger response over time to the same stimulus. Increases with intensity over time.
Sensitization
The learners response to the same stimulus decreases in intensity over time
Habituation
Also known as instrumental conditioning, is a form of learning in which consequences drive future behavior
Operant conditioning
Anything that increases the future frequency, intensity, or duration of the behavior
Reinforcement
Anything that decreases the future frequency, intensity, or duration of the behavior.
Punishment
Behavior is strengthened and something has been added to the situation
Positive reinforcement
Removal of something to increase the the likelihood that a particular behavior will happen again. Can add something the learner will work to avoid
Negative reinforcement
Decreasing behavior over time by removing something from the situation
Negative punishment
