helped run clans, governed, were respected and had privilege’s

protected the clans, military, higher than commoners
Commoner role
majority of the population, were farmers, craftsmen, laborors, produced good for the clans in return for protection from warriors and also the leader. Commoners had less power
Slave roles
had no rights or freedom, worked for the noble family and had no power in society
When did the clan system begin to change?
when a centralized government was formed and an emperor was appointed
Under the yamato rule, what happened?
- leaders of other clans promised them loyalty because they knew they could never win in battle
- recognised the yamato cheif as the supreme leader
- had great military forces
What was the achievements of Prince shotoku?
