On NC state farms, when do beef cattle calve?
In the fall and spring
When do the fall cows calf? What type are they?
Angus cows calve in September and October.
When do the spring cows calf? What type are they?
Polled Hereford cows in January and February.
What is done after a calf is born?
Given a temporary ID until it can be tattooed.
Given medications and vaccinations.
Males are castrated. Calves have their horns removed if they are arent wanted. Generally at least a month or more.
What are Stocker cattle?
Cattle that have been sent to a background operation. Usually weigh about 500 lbs
What are feeder cattle?
Cattle that have been sent to a feedlot. Usually weigh about 700lbs
What are fat cattle?
Cattle that are in feedlots that are close to their desired market weight.
What do you call a animal that is a year old?
Yearling.
How do you find Average weight per day?
Weight/Age = average weight per day.
To find exact age, youll need the ear tag.
