What is a VP shunt?
VP= ventriculo-peritoneal shunt is also known as a cerebral shunt. A catheter is passed into the ventricles of the brain and removes excess CSF and drains it into the peritoneal cavity where it is absorbed. Used to treat hydrocephalus
How might we elicit a fasiculation?
flick the leg or muscle with your finger
Side effects of GTN?
headaches and hypotension
Acute treatment of unstable angina
sit up, give oxygen, do a blood test for troponins, LDH and check FBE + potassium levels
What are the 5 signs of acute arterial insufficiency?
Pallor, Pain, pulselessness, paralysis, parathesia
what is a test for clexane, lmw heparin, warfarin?
anti- f10a, ApTT and INR respectively

squiggly red lines under skin indicating inflammation of the lymphatics
what is the order for the femoral triangle?
Femoral nerve, femoral artery, femoral vein, empty space, lacunar ligament
what is the purpose of radiating blood at the blood bank prior to transfusion?
remove donor T lymphocytes
What is the universal donor of plasma and blood type?
AB plasma and O blood
what are the 3 types of NOF?
intertrochanteric, true NOF, subscapital
What are some high risks of PE?
LL orthopaedic surgery, pelvic surgery, immobility, hypercoagulable state from malignancy
What is Howman’s sign?
a sign of DVT, a positive sign is present when there is pain in the calf on dorsiflexion of the patient’s foot at the ankle.
what are 2 causes of a 3rd nerve palsy?
compression (aneurysm) or diabetic retinopathy–> ischaemia of fibres, but not the PS fibres.
