Purpose of BDI?
Assessment of typically developing child
Assessment and identification of the child with a disability or developmental delay
Planning and providing instruction and intervention
Evaluation of programs serving children
ICF levels addressed =

What domains does the BDI address?
5 domains:
1. Adaptive (self-care, personal responsibility)
2. Personal-social (Adult/peer interaction, self-concept, social role)
3. Communication (receptive/expressive communication)
4. Motor (gross, fine, perceptual)
5. Cognitive (attention, memory, reasoning, academic, perception)
Population BDI can test
Birth to 8 years old (larger than most tests can use on infants too)
Intellectual disabilities, deafness or hard of hearing, deaf-blindness, visual impairments, emotional disturbances, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairments, or other health related impairments
Advantages of the BDI
Covering a *wide variety of developmental skills
Easy to administer
Very clear guidelines for the objective scoring of each task in each subdomain
**Gives an overall picture of child before starting PT
Disadvantages of BDI
Long completion time if each section is to be done, and a lack of attention and motivation from the child towards the end of the test
Scoring BDI?
E/ test has score of 0 (lowest).- 2 (highest)
E/ domain is totaled for a raw score
Raw scored –> used in appendix to find age equivalency
