bbb Flashcards
define transfusion associated graft versus host disease
what is the reaction?
due to proliferation of competent lymphocytes in which the donor’s lymphocytes attacktes the transfusion recipient.
maculopapular rash starts at the center then to the extremitiies
define febrile non-hemolytic transfusion reaction
it is the most commonly encountered in which the reaction is caused by the donor HLA antigen present in wbc and platelets attacked by recipient’s antibodies.
what is the most dangerous blood type? why?
what is the testing?
ABO due to IgM and complement activation
DAT positive
define iatrogenic
Iatrogenic is caused by the physician in which it happens in the transfusion associated circulatory overload due to phyisician’s fault not the blood components itself.
treatment for PTP
infuse intravenous immunoglobulin
what to check for bacterial contamination?
- cloudiness
- color change
- clots
- hemolysis
you may perform gram stain and culture
viability of FFP
for emergency blood transfusion
group O RBCs
blood type O
2nd most common transfusion reaction
allergic transfusion reaction
types of blood donors
- autologous
- allogenous
viability of FFP and why?
20 minutes
to avoid loss of clotting factors
