Basics Level 2 Flashcards
Card 01: Basics Level 2
P. 42. Use existing divot to improve aim and lessen ground interference.
Place tee centered behind divot for great aiming.
Remarks: These are mainly Driver Drills
Card 02: Drill 2/12. Pause at the top of swing.
Pause at the top of BS for a fraction of a second. This lets you gather all body parts going into DS.
Start DS with a gravity drop using hips and shoulders to begin rotation into DS transition. This permits time to get shaft on the plane line it had at address.
Remarks: It also helps me to swing low into impact.
Card 03: Drill 2/13 Impact at 4:00
Hit the impact at 4:00. This prevents the slice. A slicer hits at the 2:00 position.
Remarks: This should insure I swing inside, center, inside through impact.
Card 04: Find the straight line
P. 44. Look for straight line down to ball. When using Driver, your hands SB over the ball instead of ahead of the ball. Reference the picture on page 44.
Remarks: This should help keep drives straight.
Card 05: Be in Sync!
Sync arm swing with body turn, this is main cause for slice: shoulder and upper body unwind too fast in DS, throwing hands and arms outside the swing plane.
Body position: Think of your hands and arms swinging down to hip height (transition level club) BEFORE your body starts to unwind.
Remarks: MN: I like to think of keeping arms turning with chest.
I did this before with my gravity drops. Remember I would rotate into transition, getting shaft on plane then I would release into impact. Remember to stick ball out on setup so I have to stay extended arms to hit the ball.
Card 06: Turn and swish
This drill is too verbose. refer to Drill 2/16. P. 46.
Baseball (BB) swing brought down to natural golf swing. Feel the SWISH!
Driver uses a shallow swing. Keep right knee flexed well into DS.
Card 07: Seniors raise left knee on BS. More detail on Drill 19.
Remarks: Both Nicklaus and Snead raised their left heel way up! Nicklaus says it is okay to do this so long as you bring it back down.
Card 08: Turn your back to target!
Drill 2/18, Turn back to target. Try to point club to the target. Slicers point left of the target line.
Try to point club to the target behind your back on long back swings.
P. 49.
Remarks: I usually do not go all the way back like that. Remember, Long BS equals lousy ball control. Most of my swings will be half or ¾ swings.
Card 09: Lift heel if you are a senior. P50,51. Drill 2/19
Do not lift heel by itself. Let the full BS cause it to lift!
Remarks: This will take some getting used to. I’ll try to work it that way to evaluate if I really want to use it.
Card 10: Tilt spine for a power punch. Spine angle SB to the right of ball. This also gives you the correct shoulder tilt.
Ref: Pictures Drill 2/20. This means you are tilting to your right.
Remarks: After I master these drills, go to level three drills.
Swing thought on Release, “Think of your forearms touching in the release.”
