1
Q

TIM

A

Tune - set the frequency of the VOR station in the NAV field on the RMU

Identify - pull the NAV volume switch. Listen to the morse code identifier

Monitor - turn down the volume but keep listening

Q

Proceed direct (VOR)

A
  1. TIM
  2. turn in the shorter direction towards the head of the BP
  3. once the head of the BP is at the top of the EHSI, pull the CRS knob to center it
  4. ensure white triangle has “to” indication
  5. Keep the CDI centered

Q

VOR Course Intercepts (general)

A
  1. TIM
  2. Set CRS in the EHSI (reciprocal if needed)
  3. Check for to-from indication and if it’s valid
  4. Turn towards the CDI and get both the CDI and the HEAD of the CRS arrow in the upper half

Q

Inbound Course Intercept

A
  1. TIM
  2. Set reciprocal CRS in the EHSI
  3. Check for to indication (and if it’s valid)
  4. Turn towards the CDI and get both the CDI and the HEAD of the CRS arrow in the upper half
  5. Roll out when head of BP is between top heading index and head of CRS arrow
  6. Refine using CB + 30`

Q

Outbound Course Intercept

A
  1. TIM
  2. Set CRS in the EHSI (same as radial)
  3. Check for from indication (and if it’s valid)
  4. Turn towards the CDI and get both the CDI and the HEAD of the CRS arrow in the upper half
  5. Roll out when head of CRS is at the 45 degree marker (left or right)

Q

Outbound Course Intercept immediately after station passage (ex. post penetration approach in IFG) GENERAL

A
  • don’t use too much of an intercept angle because radials will be very close together immediately after station passage
  • cone of confusion=altitude/6,000 for how long you’ll be in it (ex at 12,000 ft you enter at 2 DME)
  • You will pass over VOR and bearing pointer will swap ends

Q

Outbound Course Intercept immediately after station passage procedure

A
  1. TIM
  2. Turn in shortest direction to parallel the outbound course
  3. set the CRS in the EHSI
  4. Check for “from” indication
  5. determine how far off course you are - look at tail of BP vs head of CRS arrow
  6. intercept using that angle. turn to a heading which is that exact number of degrees off.
    - -lead roll out by 1/3 angle of bank
    - -go slowly to crosscheck all your performance instruments

Q

Radial to Arc

“Blade 25 intercept the 16 DME arc, arc east)

A
  1. TIM
  2. Determine direction to turn, either by the published approach or by the controller’s instructions
  3. Determine lead point to intercept arc
  4. Desired arc +/- TR
    200 KIAS = 1.5
    150 KIAS = 1
    Outbound? -
    Inbound? +

Q

Arc to Radial

A
  1. TIM
  2. Determine lead radial (look at tail of bearing pointer -OR cdi if it’s less than 10 radials- to tell you when you’ve reached the lead radial)
  3. 60/DME * TR (1.5 or 1)
    * *always wise to compute your own**

Q

Fix-to-Fix (VOR)

A
  1. TIM
  2. Set the RADIAL in the CRS (never the reciprocal)
  3. Turn in shortest direction between the head of the BP and the head of the CRS
  4. refine heading- favor BP if inbound and CRS if outbound
  5. pencil method to check. update at even DMEs

16
Q

Fix-to-Fix GENERAL NOTES

A
  • proceeding to target DME that is the exact same as current? Roll out on heading EXACTLY between the head of the BP and CRS.
  • if HEAD of BP and HEAD of CRS are both in upper half, you will “cut the arc” (decrease then increase DME)
17
Q

Fix-to-Fix updating

A
  • turning to a heading exactly between head of BP and CRS = get you to target radial on SAME DME
  • turning to a heading halfway between mid-point and HEAD of BP = get you to target radial at HALF the current DME

-turning to a heading halfway between midpoint and HEAD
of CRS= get you to target radial at TWICE the current DME

18
Q

GPS Proceed Direct

A
  1. Select desired waypoint on GPS and press “DIRECT” and “ENTER”
  2. Turn in shortest direction to place HEAD of MAGENTA B{ under top EHSI heading
  3. Press NAV on EFIS to change the display to GPS
  4. Press “DIRECT” plus “ENTER” to center the CDI
  5. Maintain CRS heading
19
Q

GPS Fix-to-Fix (VOR)

A
  1. TIM
  2. Set desired radial in CRS
  3. Turn to heading between the BP and CRS
  4. Select desired waypoint and follow PROCEED DIRECT instructions on last card
20
Q

Holding Pattern Procedure Turn GENERAL

A
  • -Visualize procedure turn fix = same as holding fix
  • -maneuvering side of procedure turn = same as holding side
  • -only difference from flying actual holding pattern is that not limited to one minute legs. just have to remain w/in “remain within” dist
