Basic Movement Involving A Joint Flashcards
Flexion vs extension
Flexion - decreasing angle between 2 bones
Extension - increasing angle between 2 bones
Adduction vs abduction
Adduction - moving towards midline
Abduction - moving away from midline
Internal vs external rotation
Internal - rotating inwardly towed midline
External - rotating outwardly away from midline
Define circumduction
Circular motion
Supination vs pronation
Supination - Lateral rotation of forearm and hand
Pronation - Medial rotation of forearm and hand
Opposition vs reposition
Opposition - thumbs come to contact with other fingers
Reposition - Thumbs fingers return to anatomical position
Elevation vs depression
Elevation -moves up or more superior position
Depression - move down or more inferior position
Plantar flexion vs dorsiflexion
Plantar flexion - Pointing foot downward
Dorsiflexion - Pointing foot upward
Inversion vs eversion
Inversion - medial border of foot raised so the sole of the foot is turned inward
Eversion - lateral border of foot is raised so the sole of the foot is turned outward
Protraction vs retraction
Protraction - Bring to a more forward position
Retraction - Bring to a move backward position
