possible biased point of view because we usually hear the winning side, written during the occurring time period

providential, life has meaning, meaning is knowable, importance of community
What is the West?
developed countries, countries with economic dominance, most advanced region at the time, moves around
Problems with the idea of the West…
West is not a defined place, different time periods = different Wests

latitude and longitude focused, used for sailing, distorts pictures of the land (Greenland looks huge)
Peters Projection
Based on area, countries look elongated
