What are cognitive barriers
Not understanding the information that is provided
What are perception issues
A lack of accurate information and support
What are emotional / psychological barriers?
caused by other people’s attitudes leading to feelings of isolation or being stigmatised. Lack of confidence, may prevent people from seeking help from services
What are examples of resource barriers
Lack of resources available to support someone e.g. no beds available in a mental health ward
What are physical barriers?
Barriers that stop someone physically accessing help e.g. lack of lifts in a building for someone with impaired mobility
List some other types of barriers that you can think of that might impair someone accessing services / care?
Lack of awareness of resources available
Individual preferences - wanting to see a specific worker who might not be available
Geographical location / cost of transport to get to a specific place where support is available
Financial constraints if someone has to pay for additional support / care
Family concerns might dissuade someone from seeking help
