What is barotrauma?
Trapped air at pressure
Types of barotrauma:
Otics (ears)
Sinus
Aerodontalgia=teeth
Gastro-intestinal
Remedy to OTIC:
Valsalva
Frenzel manoeuvre = moving jaw, yawning, swallow
Remedy to sinus barotrauma
Immediate return to altitude where symptoms noticed first. But gradually descend. And return to MSL.
Aerodentalgia
Most common in ascent
Toxic hazards; spillage of agricultural chemicals. Must:
Close all outside vents.
Mercury spillage.
Vacuum it. Do not sweep.
Ozone layer (O3)
Worse at pols.
Fl400 to Fl750
Ozone poisoning symptoms:
Dry eyes, nose, throat. Severe headache. Impaired vision. Coughing. Discomfort in chest. Breathing difficulties. Heart strain. Permanent change to elasticity of lung. DEATH.
Cosmic radiation: records kept
For people who travel 49k and above. Consists of: Galactic radiation Solar radiation. More protection at equator than polls. Can cause cancer.
