what are the complicatons of bariatric surgery?
anastomotic leak DVT / PE malnutrition infection vitamin/mineral deficiencies hair loss excess skin
what are the advantages and disavantages of gastric banding?
relatively minor surgery
reversible ad adjustable
but requires an implanted medical device,is easier to ‘cheat’ and risk of prolapse or slippage
what are the advantages and disadvantages of a sleeve gastrectomy?
advantages = no 'dumping syndrome'or small bowel manipulation disadvantages = more invasive surgery, long staple line (bleeding/leak)
what are the advantages and disadvantages of a gastric bypass?
advantages is that its quick and has dramatic weight loss
but its invasive surgery and malaborption components means life long supplements
