a procedure for people with obesity
1 gastric band
-inflatable silicone device is placed around the top portion of the stomach
-intended to slow consumption of food and thus reduce amount of food consumed
2 sleeve gastrectomy
-stomach is reduced to 15% of its original size by removal of a large portion of the stomach along the greater curvature
3 gastric bypass
-stomach is divided into an upper pouch and a larger lower pouch, the small intestine it rearrange to connect to both
-food enters small upper pouch

A

severe obesity, where lifestyle measures+/medical therapy have been ineffective
BMI >40kg/m2
BMI 35-40 + HTN, T2DM, heart disease
