Bandura- SLT Flashcards
what theory does Bandura work with?
Social learning theory
What did he think behaviour was created by? or influenced by?
The environment
What is a role model in terms of the social learning theory?
An individual who a person looks up to and often is imitated
how did he believe learning took place?
By observing and imitating
what is modelling?
a process where an individual copies a role model
What did Bandura use in his most famous experiment?
A bobo doll
where children who watched an adult get rewarded after abusing the bobo doll more or less likely to show aggression themselves?
more likely
where children who watched an adult get punished after abusing the bobo doll more or less likely to show aggression themselves?
less likely
did Banduras experiment show that boys or girls where more likely to show aggression
boys
How many stages did Bandura believe there were to modelling?
four
what was the first stage to modelling?
Attention
what was the second stage to modelling?
Retention
what was the third stage to modelling?
motivation
what was the fourth stage to modelling?
production
outline two features of banduras theory
- reinforcement increases the likelihood of imitation
- Observation and imitation is how learning takes place
Name some strengths of banduras theory
- helps to understand more about children’s backgrounds and where their behaviour has come from
- helps us to understand we need to promote positive role models
- helps to understand behaviour like fear, bad experiences, or phobias
Name some weaknesses of banduras theory
- criticised for being based on a laboratory experiment and not in real life
- doesn’t take into account children’s ability to learn s based on age
- if the SLT theory was true children’s personalities would be constantly changing
