Procedure
Measured their fear levels and also perception of how well they would cope.
Desensitised under controlled conditions
Once arousal had fallen - put in same room with real snakes
Fear and coping perceptions was measured again.
Results
The second fear scores: lower and coping perception were higher
Conclusions
Desensitisation works.
Experiments support the concept of self efficacy because the activities lead to a change in perception
Self efficacy: both cognitive and behavioural concept
Also a form of classical conditioning

To assess the self efficacy of patients engaging in systematic desensitisation for snake phobias

Theory that’s looks at the influences and factors that are more likely to lead someone to success

What is enactive influences
This is the individuals past experiences which determine their motivation to complete a task
What is vicarious influences
Uses other around you to motivate someone. Seeing someone else will drive you
What is persuasory influences
Positive feedback coming from someone else. Family/friends
What is emotive influences
Over anxiety can lead to success. Or feeling incapable to succeed
What concept is self efficacy
Takes and internal LOC concept
If we work harder we will think we can succeed
