Balance, Sickness & Acceleration Flashcards
What is motion sickness?
Illness caused by motion travel.
When does motion sickness occur?
The mismatch of information can confuse your brain leading to nausea, vomiting, hyperventilation, pallor and sweating.
How do you minimise symptoms of motion sickness.
- Cold fizzy drinks or carbonated beverage
- Dry out mouth, lessening nausea
- Don’t eat too much before flight
- Fresh Cold Air (Brought to shiver is good, warm body)
- Ginger or ginger derivatives such as tea
- Close eyes
x direction means?
forward and back
z direction means?
up and down
y direction means?
side to side
What is positive and negative g?
Positive g is when aircraft goes up, blood goes down.
Negative g is when aircraft goes down, blood goes up.
What happens to the heart during increased g loads.
Parts of the body get heavier, therefore the heart has to work harder to pump blood.
What is the first organ in the body to show deterioration?
Eyes
During increased g loads in what order does deterioration occur in the body?
- Loss of colour (grey out)
- Tunnel vision
- Black out (vision is all black)
Further increase in g will lead to G-LOC (G induced loss of consciousness)
In what areas does blood accumulate during negative g force?
In negative g large amounts of blood accumulate under pressure in head, neck and upper areas of body.
What are some symptoms of negative g?
Facial pain
Bursting of blood vessels in the face and eyes
The pushing of the lower eyelid to cause redout (mixing of blood with tears)
The upward rush of blood causes heart to slow down
When can grey out occur?
Only be experienced during sustained load of +3.5g
When does black out and G-LOC occur?
Black out and G-LOC occur at load of +5g
What are some factors increasing G tolerance.
G -suits have gel disabling blood from going up and down
100% 02 breathing
Anti G straining manoeuvre
Regular training
