Bacteria Flashcards
Why are bacteria Prokaryotes
they have no nucleus, and they have no membrane bound organelles, but they have a cytoplasm and a Ribosomes
what Kingdom does a bacteria come from?
the monera kingdom
Bacteria that live in the presence of oxygen
aerobic bacteria
Bacteria that don’t live in the presence
anaerobic bacteria
what are the first 3 layers of a bacterium cell
the slim layer(for pathogenic bacteria that protects them from enemies)
a cell wall that consists of a carbohydrates, proteins and lipids
and
a plasma membrane (cell membrane) that surrounds the cytoplasm, the ribosomes and nucleoid
various shapes of bacteria
rod shaped (bacillus)
the spherical shape (coccus)
the spiral shaped(the spirillum)
the comma shaped(the vibrio)
how are they reproduced
asexually through binary fission
how do they makes food
some are autotrophs
majority are heterotrophs
Three types of heterotrophs
Parasitic bacteria
Saprophytic bacteria
Mutualistic bacteria
Parasitic bacteria
obtain food from living organisms
Saprophytic bacteria
Obtain food from dead organisms
Mutualistic bacteria
Obtain food from symbiotic relationship with another organism
