Back Superior To C7 - Back and Neck Flashcards
Trapezius Origin
Medial third of superior nuchal line; external occipital protuberance; nuchal ligament; spinous processes of C7-T12 vertebrae
Trapezius Insertion
Lateral third of clavicle; acromion and spine of scapula
Trapezius Innervation
Spinal accessory nerve (CN XI) (motor fibers) and C3, C4 spinal nerves (pain and proprioceptive fibers)
Trapezius Action
Descending part elevates; ascending part depresses; and middle part(or all parts together) retracts scapula; descending and ascending parts act together to rotate glenoid cavity superiorly
Trapezius Roots
C3,C4
Splenius Capitis Origin
Nuchal ligament and spinous processes of C7-T3 or T4 vertebrae
Splenius Capitis Insertion
Fibers run superolaterally to mastoid process of temporal bone and lateral third of superior nuchal line of occipital bone
Splenius Capitis Innervation
Posterior rami of spinal nerves
Splenius Capitis Action
Acting alone: Laterally flex neck and rotate head side to side of active muscles
Splenius Cervicis Origin
Nuchal ligament and spinous processes of C7-T3 or T4 vertebrae
Splenius Cervicis Insertion
Tubercles of transverse processes of C1-C3 or C4 vertebrae
Splenius Cervicis Innervation
Posterior rami of spinal nerves
Splenius Cervicis Action
Acting alone: Laterally flex neck and rotate head side to side of active muscles
