What is the function of the pressurisation vent?
It opens when the handle moves towards open- it releases residual pressure. When the door is closed and locked the vent closes.
What is the purpose of the pressurisation vent?
Equalises cabin and outside air pressure before the door opens.
When does the flight lock activate?
When the aircraft reaches a speed of 92mph.
If there is a power failure what happens to the flight lock?
It automatically releases.
What is meant by EDW?
Electronically Dimmable Window
When the EDW shows a blue LED light- what does this mean?
The window is darkened.
When the EDW shows a flashing LED what does this mean?
The window shade is transitioning.
When the EDW shows no LED what does this mean?
The window is clear
When does the EDW need to be clear?
On the ground, taxi, take-off, and landing.
If one side of the EDW switch fails how can it be reset?
By holding the opposite switch for 10 seconds.
What are the five pre flight checks of all doors on the 787?
- Doors closed with operating handle all the way down.
- Mode selector set to manual and mode light illuminated.
- Green locked indicator illuminated.
- Viewing window set to clear.
- Visual check to ensure nothing is stuck in frame or sill.
How do you set a 787 door to automatic?
- Slide cover to open
- Pull mode selector down to automatic
- Check the automatic mode light illuminated
- Slide cover to close
- Cross check with the opposite door

- Push mode selector up to manual

- From pushback until top of climb
- From top of descent until parking at the gate

What else must be done when the CDSS is not working?
A crew member must remain in Galley 1 at all times.

- Pull open the red cover over the lock
- Press the button

- Pull strap to remove the acoustic cushion
- Rotate the interior handle to the OPEN position

Enter the dial code of the door which was dialled- the cabin light will be redirected.
How do you add another party to a call?
Enter the door code which you want to add, once third has joined the call a fourth may join if necessary.
What is the chain of command with the interphone handsets?
- Flight deck

Each cabin crew member is required to make a test PA when conducting pre flight checks- how is this done?
By dialling 40 and then pressing PTT on the handset

How do you open the flight deck escape hatch?
- Slide descent device stowage compartment latch to the open position.
- Grasp a descent device and remove it from stowage
- Hold reel over shoulder and climb through escape hatch
- Hold descent device with both hands and lower yourself down the fuselage
- Unreeling will automatically adjust according to your weight
- Reel will not retract so can only be used once
How would you locate the water shut off for the toilet?
- Open the amenities drawer
- Open waste bin compartment
- Locate and pull release latch on the side of amenities drawer
- Release and lift amenities drawer out of its stowage
How is the water shut off in the toilets?
After locating the water shut off switch:
1. Rotate lever to FAUCET (taps on only)
2. Rotate lever to TOILET (only the toilet on)
3. Rotate lever to CLOSE (both toilet and taps off)
Where are the water heaters located in the toilets?
Under each seat adjacent to the waste bin
How would you know whether the TAFE has been extinguished?
The black seals over the nozzles are no longer there.
How would you know that a high temperature has been reached from the temperature indicator?
They will change colour
What are the different colour indications seen on the smoke detector?
Green steady= power available and operating normally
Green flashing= maintenance required
Red flashing= Smoke detector failure
What are the indications that there is a decompression?
- Cabin lights to 100%
- PA volume to maximum
- FSB signs on
- Five lo chimes sound throughout the cabin
- Continuous horn sounds in crew rest areas
If the oxygen masks fail to automatically drop what should be done?
- Push one of the circular ends of the PSU, causing the other to drop.
