What is cancer
Cancer is a disease caused when a cell mutates and loses control over its cell cycle causing it to reproduce in an uncontrolled way which forms a tumour
What is a benignant tumour
These tumours don’t spread but instead build up in one spot and grow very large which can be dangerous if the put pressure on organs
What is a malignant tumour
These tumours break up and spread around the body while multiplying. These spread fast by travelling through your blood stream and are hard to treat because of how they move through your body
What can cause cancer
Chemicals such as Asbestos and tobacco tar
UV light or infrared radiation
You can be born with cancer if the woman had cancer while she was pregnant
What is radiotherapy
The cancer is targeted with radiation that stops mitosis from happening. This also damages healthy cells
What is chemotherapy
The patient is given chemicals that kill the cancer but this also makes the patient ill and has side effects such as hair loss
How does smoking effect our health
Tar: builds up in your lungs and damages them, making it hard to breath. Also can cause cancer
Nicotine: the addictive chemical that is harmless on its own but makes your heart beat faster
Carbon monoxide: poison chemical that binds to your blood cells in place of oxygen leading to an oxygen deficiency
Smoking and heart disease
Chemicals in tobacco thin and age your coronary arteries while nicotine makes your heart beat faster. It also increases your blood pressure so all these factors combined increase the chance of a stroke or heart attack
