vasculitis
infection associated purpura
fevers, likely leukocytosis, tachycardia, tachypnea
- sepsis/ DIC
- meningococcemia
platelet disorder associated purpura
thrombocytopenic purpura
low platelet count and absence of signs of infection
-ITP
-TTP
vasculitis associated purpura
platelet count normal occasional fevers and constitutional symptoms with vasculitis due to inflammatory cascade no instability of vitals -immune complex vasculitis -drug induced vasculitis -ANCA associated vasculitis
bowel angina
abdominal pain that worsens with eating due to poor blood supply to the intestines
in HSP vessels are occluded bc of inflammation
patients have signs of GI bleed and pain
hematuria w HSP
if kidneys involved, commonly present in HSP
positive blood on urine dipstick and microscopy
sometimes will have proteinuria
other causes of hematuria in children
traumatic collection
IgA nephropathy
benign familial hematuria
myoglobinuria
arthritis
inflammation of the joint
- includes pain, swelling, heat, redness
- isolated pain w/o other signs is arthralgia, not arthritis
HSP associated arthritis
most commonly ankle, followed by knees, wrists, and elbows
common causes of arthritis in kids
reactive (after viral resp infection)
juvenile RA
