B4 - Organising Animals And Plants Flashcards
Name all different blood types
Red blood cell
White blood cell (lymphocytes / phagocytes)
Plasma
Platlets
Name all blood vessels
Arteries - narrow lumen - thick muscular wall
Veins - large lumen - thin wall
Capillaries - very thin wall - large lumen
What side is oxygenated blood
LORD L- left O - oxygenated R- right D - deoxygenated
Name all parts of the heart..
vena cave - right atrium - right ventricle - pulmonary artery - pulmonary vein - left atrium - left ventricle - aorta
Breathing and gas exchange
The lungs - trachea - bronchi (each one is bronchus) - bronchioles - alveoli
What happens in the alveolus
Oxygen diffuses out of the alveolus (high concentration) to the blood (low concentration)
Then the other way round to breath out.
Name tissues and organs in plants
Xylem Phloem Epidermal tissue Palisade mesophyll tissue Spongy mesophyll tissue
Why do plants need water?
Water is a reactant of photosynthesis to help make glucose
It allows the stomata to become turgid and open
The plant cools down
Water makes the plant strong and turgid
How do plants control the rate of transpiration?
Waxy cuticle
Guard cells open and close the stomata
Few stomata on the upper surface of the leaf
What is transpiration ?
Transpiration is the evaporation and diffusion of water from the surface of the leaf.
