B3 - Cells Flashcards
What features does a plant cell have?
Mitochondria, ribosomes, chloroplasts, a cell membrane, a cell wall, a nucleus and a vacuole.
What features does an animal cell have?
A nucleus, the cytoplasm, ribosomes, a cell membrane and mitochondria
What features does a cell of bacteria have?
Single strand of DNA, a cell membrane, a cell wall and the cytoplasm.
What does the mitochondria do?
Carries out respiration.
What cells have a lot of mitochondria and why?
Liver and muscle cells. They have a lot of mitochondria because they need a lot of energy. Muscles need it to contract and the liver needs it to carry out many metabolic reactions.
What do the ribosomes do?
Carry out protein synthesis.
What does the cell membrane do?
Holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out of the cell.
What does the nucleus do?
Carries the DNA.
What is the cytoplasm?
A gel like substance, where most of the chemical reactions happen.
What is the vacuole?
A relatively large structure that contains cell sap, a weak solution of sugar and salts.
What do chloroplasts do?
Carry out photosynthesis.
What does the cell wall do?
Supports the cells(made of cellulose).
