Organs are organised into…
Organ systems
During the development of a multicellular organism what do cells do?
Differentiate to perform different functions
What is a tissue?
A group of similar cells with similar structure and function
What does muscular tissue do?
Contract to bring about movement
What does glandular tissue do?
Produce substances such as enzymes and hormones
What does epithelial tissue do?
Covers some parts of the body
What are organs?
They are made up of tissues. One organ may contain several tissues. An example of an organ is the stomach
What does the muscular tissue in the stomach do?
Churn the contents
What does the glandular tissue in the stomach do?
Produce digestive juices
What does the epithelial tissue in the stomach do?
Covers the outside and the inside of the stomach
What are organ systems?
Groups of organs that perform a particular function. An example of this is the digestive system
What glands are in the digestive system?
The pancreas and the salivary glands
What do the glands in the digestive system do?
Produce digestive juices
Where does digestion occur in the digestive system?
The stomach and the small intestine
What does the liver do in the digestive system?
Produces bile
What does the small intestine do in the digestive system?
Absorbs soluble food
What does the large intestine do in the digestive system?
Absorb water from undigested food and produce faeces
What are the plant organs?
Roots, stems and leaves
What is the job of the epidermal tissue in a plant?
Cover the plant
What is the job of the mesophyll tissue in the plant?
Carry out photosynthesis
What is the job of xylem and phloem in the plant?
Transport substances around the plant
