B2.1 Cell Structure Flashcards
List three cell structures that are found in plant cells but not in animal cells.
Cell wall, large vacuole, chloroplast.
the part of a plant cell that carries photosynthesis
chloroplast
the part of a plant cell that contains cell sap
large vacuole
the part of a plant cell that stop the cell swelling if it takes in a lot of water
cell wall
Where would you find the ciliated cells and what do they do
Lining in some tubes in animal organs, such as respiratory tract of humans.
The cilia on the outside of the cells helps move substances along inside the tubes.
Where would you find red blood cells and what do they do
In blood.
Carry oxygen around that attached to hemoglobin inside the cell.
Where would you find root hair cells and what do they do?
Near the tips of plant roots.
Have long cell extensions to increase surface area for absorption of materials into the root.
Describe how the structures of sperm and egg cells are adapted to their functions in reproduction.
Sperm cells are small and have a tail for movement.
Mitochondria provide energy for movement of the tail.
Acrosome contains enzymes that digest the egg cell membrane so the sperm nucleus can enter the egg cell for fertilization.
Egg cells are large and contain a lot of cytoplasm to provide nutrients for fertilized cell during the early stages of division.
