B2.1 Flashcards
Cytoplasm
A gell like substance where most of the chemical reactions take place .It contains enzymes that control these chemical reactions
mitochondria
These are where most of the reactions for respiration take place.Prespirations release energy that cells need to work
Ribosomes
These are were proteins are made in the cell
Cell membrane
Holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out
What extra things do plants cells have that animal cells do not
- –cell wall
- –permanent vacuole
- –chloroplasts
Permanent vacuole
This contains cell sap , a weak solution of sugar and salts
Rigid cell wall
This is made of a substance called cellulose.it supports the cell and strengthens it .
Chloroplasts
Contain chlorophyll
This is were photosynthesis takes place
Specialised cells
Cells group together to make a tissue
What is diffusion
Diffusion is the movement of particles from a high concentration to a an area of low concentration
What does the rate of diffusion depend on
Distance—–diffusion occurs more quickly if the substance has to travel a small distance
concentration difference—-substAnces travel faster if there is greater difference in concentration levels
Surface area—-the more surface there is available for molecules the faster the diffusion
What are alveoli
Tiny air sacs that make up the lung
Gas exchange in alveolus
/////blood returning from the body has high levels of co2 and low levels of oxygen ////oxygen diffuses from the alveoli into the blood where there is a low concentration ////co2 diffuses out of the blood into the alveolus to be breathed out
Diffusionism in the body cells
////when blood reaches body cells oxygen is released from the red blood cells into the body cells for respiration ///:co2 which is wasted from respiration diffuses out of the body cells into blood
Diffusion occurs in synapses
Electrical message diffuses across the gAp as a chemical
