B1.8 Evolution Flashcards
Natural selection
Natural selection is the process by which the best adapted organisms survives, reproduces and passes on its gens to
Lamarck theory of evolution
Jean-Baptiste Lamarck suggested a theory called ‘the inheritance of acquired characteristics’. His theory stated that characteristics which develop during an organism’s lifetime can be passed on to the next generation.
Creationism
=All life is created by God
==species are in the same form as they are now
==species do not change over time
exxplain lamarks theory of evolution
A characteristic which is used more and more by an organism becomes bigger and stronger, and one that is not used eventually disappears
Any feature of an organism that is improved through use is passed to its offspring.
Small giraffes evolved via Natural selection into tall ones.explain how
A gene for height hasraffes. mutated inside the giraffe. This mutation causes variation in the group of giraffes. There is a competition for food ,and after some time the short giraffes all die because the tall giraffes have an advantage ,this means that they can get to the top parts of the tree. This makes them well adapted and allows themto survive, reproduce and pass on there genes to the next generation
