b2 Flashcards
What is fertilisation
fertilisation is joining of genetic material in a sperm and an egg
What is puberty?
puberty causes changes to the body to get ready for reproduction, in girls a growth spurt, pubic hair, breasts grow, menstrual cycle starts hips widen. For boys, a growth spurt, pubic hair, voice deepens sperm production starts, sex organs grow.
describe the menstruation cycle
menstruation cycle lasts 28 days and it’s when the lining of the uterus comes away lasting about five days .the role of the menstruation cycle is to prepare a woman’s body pregnancy.
What is ovulation
ovulation is when a egg leaves the ovary on day 14 if a woman becomes pregnant the baby will develop inside the uterus
how is the baby supported when in the womb

how pregnancy last
9 months
what happens during labour
during labour the muscles in the walls of the uterus contract to help push the baby out through the cervix and vagina.
Petal
The pedal attracts insects to the plant
anther
The anther produces pollen
and is a male sex cell
filament
The filament holds up the anther so that the pollen is rubbed onto visiting insects
stigma
The stigma is part of the female reproductive organs where the pollen lands
style
The style hold the stigma up and connects it to the ovary
ovary
The ovary contains the ovals which are female sex cells
what is pollination
pollination is the transfer of pollen from one flowering plant to another. It can be done by wind and insects
what happens in flower reproduction
flower reproduction, pollen fertilises eggs which then develop into seeds and dispersed in a variety of ways, including wind, animals and water.
what is asexual reproduction
asexual reproduction only requires one parent and there is no mixing of genetic information micro organisms use a sexual reproduction.
How are microorganisms grown
Using a nutrient agar
