b1 Flashcards
what is iodine
iodine is test for starch and also goes black to show a positive result for starch
Ethanol
ethanol is used to test for fat also ethanol goes cloudy to show a positive result for fat
Biuret
is used for testing protein and goes purple when positive .
Benedict solution
Benedict solution is used to test for sugar and changes to a red brick colour if present, it requires heat to work.
describe cells
cells make up all living organisms and are too small to see by the naked eye and can only be seen with a microscope.
what is in a animal cell
an animal cell contains a nucleus, cytoplasm and a cell membrane.
plant cell
A plant cell has a nucleus, cytoplasm cell membrane and also a vacuole chloroplast and a cell wall.
cell membrane
The cell membrane controls what goes in and out of cell
cytoplasm
Cytoplasm is a jellylike substance where chemical reactions take place .
nucleas
stores genetic information and controls what happens in a cell.
Cell wall
cell wall is made from cellulose and gives rigid support.
vacuole
vacuole contain cell sap and provide support for the cell
chloroplast
chloroplast contains green pigment and is where photosynthesis happens
Animal cell example
an animal cell example is a sperm cell which needs to swim to an egg cell and has a long tail and lots of mitochondria to carry out the role.
Plant cell example
A plant cell example is a root hair cell which collects water from the soil for plants and has a large surface area
what unicellular organism
unicellular organisms only have one cell these include as an example bacteria.
what is multicellular
multicellular organisms contain many cells that may carry out the same function and often a group together into tissues different tissues work together to form organs.
