B1.4 Specialisation In Animal Cells Flashcards
1
Q
Give 3 adaptations of nerve cells:
A
Can have either:
- lots of dendrites to make connections to other nerve cells
- an axon that carries the nerve impulse from one place to another
- the nerve endings or synapses are adapted to pass the impulses from one place to another
2
Q
Can you give 3 adaptations for muscle cells:
A
- they contain special proteins that slide over each other making fibres contract
- they contain many mitochondria to transfer the energy needed for the chemical reactions to take place
- they can store glycogen, a chemical that can be broken down and used for cellular respiration
3
Q
Give 3 adaptations for sperm cells:
A
- a long tail helps the sperm move through water or the reproductive system
- the middle section is full of mitochondria which transfers energy for the tail to work
- the acrosome stores digestive enzymes for breaking down outer layers of the egg
- a large nucleus contains the genetic information to be passed on
