B1.2.3 - Control in Plants Flashcards
Where do plants’ SHOOTS grow?
SHOOTS grow TOWARDS light AGAINST gravity force
Where do plants’ ROOTS grow?
ROOTS grow TOWARDS moisture and in the direction of gravity
What do plants produce to coordinate and control growth?
Hormones
What is the main hormone that controls geotropism and phototropism?
Auxin
What is geotropism?
The growth of plants in response to the force of gravity
What is phototropism?
The growth of plants in response to light
What does auxin cause?
Parts of a plant stem grows faster than others
what does auxin result in?
the stem bends towards the light
Where is there more auxin on the stem, and why?
There is more auxin on the shaded side, so the growth speeds up, making the stem bend towards light to carry out better photosynthesis.
Plants are sensitive to what 3 things?
Light
Moisture
Gravity
