B1.2.1 Nerves Flashcards
1
Q
What are receptors in the eye sensitive to?
A
Light
2
Q
What are receptors in the ear sensitive to?
A
- sound
- changes in position that help us keep our balance
3
Q
What are receptors on the tongue and nose sensitive to?
A
Chemicals
They also enable us to taste and smell
4
Q
What are receptors in skin sensitive to?
A
Touch, pressure, pain and temperature change
5
Q
What type of cell is a light receptor?
A
An animal cell
6
Q
What do light receptor cells contain?
A
Nucleus, cytoplasm, and cell membrane
7
Q
What happens in a reflex action? (prepare for long answer!)
A
- impulses from a receptor pass along a sensory neurone to the CNS
- at a synapse between a sensory and relay neurone in the CNS, a chemical is released that causes an impulse to be sent along a relay neurone
- a chemical is then released at the synapse between relay and motor in CNS causing impulses to be sent along a motor neurone to the effector (that brings about the response)
8
Q
What are receptors?
A
Cells that detect stimuli
