B10.5 The Eye Flashcards
What does the retina do ?
Contains photo sensitive cells that detect the image
What does the optic nerve do ?
Links signals to the brain
What does the iris do ?
Colored part of the eye that controls the pupil
What does the lens do ?
Focuses the image on the retina
What does the cornea do ?
Clear protective layer at the front of the eye
What does the pupil do ?
Controls the amount of light entering the eye
If the light is bright then the circular muscle does what and the radial muscle does what
Circular- contract
Radial- relax
If the light is dim then the circular muscle does what and the radial muscle does what
Circular- relax
Radial- contract
When focusing on a far object the light needs to be refracted what, the lens needs to be what, the colliery muscle needs to what and the suspensory ligament needs to what ?
Less light
Thinner lens
Relax colliery muscle
Pulled tight suspensory ligament
When focusing on a close object the light needs to be refracted what, the lens needs to be what, the colliery muscle needs to what and the suspensory ligament needs to what ?
More light
Thicker lens
Contract colliery muscle
Slacken suspensory ligament
What is the rhyme for light ?
The bright circle contracts
But the dim circle will relax
