B1 Flashcards
Eukaryotic
A cell with a membrane, cytoplasm and genetic info(in the nucleus)
Prokaryotic
A smaller cell with cytoplasm, a membrane and a cell wall, and genetic material is in a DNA loop which is free in the cytoplasm.
Passive diffusion
When partucles in high concentration move to areas of low concentration due to them moving randomly and bumping into eachother
Active transport
When cells allow substances to move from areas of low concentration to high concentration.
How does temerature effect diffusion?
If it is warmer, the substance will diffuse faster due to more thermal energy.
Osmosis
The movement of water molecules through a partially permeable membrane
Partially permeable membrane
A cell membrane that only allows some substances through
Concentrated solution
A solution with a significant amount of another substance, other than water
Dilute solution
A solution that is mostly water
Net movement
The direction in which the particles generally move.
Magnification
The number of times bigger an image is
Resoloution
The ability to distinguish between two points (on an image)
Hypertonic
When a solution is more concentrated than the inside of a cell
Isotonic
When a solution is as concentrated as the inside of a cell
Hypotonic
When a solution is more dilute than the inside of a cell
