Limitations of B-CAT

A

No instruction at night, spinning, aerobatics, multi, unless competence in that activity has been demonstrated to appropriately authorised flight examiner.

Must not give instrument flight instruction in IMC or IFR flight plan, unless instructor is a holder of current IR for appropriate aircraft and approach aid or system used for instruction.

As a BCAT what things must you do while supervising a C-CAT (A-F)

A

C-Cat must be under the supervision of a B or A CAT with the supervision including:

A. Accepting supervisory responsibility by signing a certificate.

B. Regular Basis monitoring pre-flight briefings given by C-CAT instructor to students and flying with the students.

C. Overseeing, guiding C Cat.

D. If not satisfied with C-CAT flying or brief, report C-CAT to CFI or director.

E. First 6 months and 100 hours, directly supervising C-CAT by being on the same airfield, at the time any flight commences, being directly responsible for authorising the flights and for the flight instruction actions of the flight instructor who is under supervision.

F. C-CATS who aren’t under direct supervision are still required to be supervised but not directly. Can’t be from a remote location. Meaning supervising instructor c must be based in the same area. E.g ChCH area.

Use of lower privileges.

A

A-B CAT’s who don’t meet requirements for their rating but meet requirements for lower category can exercises those privileges and if they want to exercise their privileges must demonstrate competence at that level.

Does use of lower privileges include Cat D and E?

A

No they are seperate ratings not lower. So if they aren’t current they can’t exercise those privileges.

Flight instructor flight experience requirements for B-CAT

A

500 hours TT
250 instructional time teaching PPL or CPL flight training experience, 150 hours in planes.
Instrument - 20 hours, 15 hrs IFT, 5 Dual instrument instruction, max of 5 in approved synthetic flight trainer.
Spin recovery - 1 hour dual instruction.
XC - 30 hr xc flight instruction

Flight instruction hour requirement at night for B-CAT and C-CAT

A

B CAT NIGHT FLYING
25hr night flying. Including 20 hours PIC
15 hours night flight instruction.

C-CATS who hold night instructional privileges need to have their pilot logbook assessed and have B CAT instructional privileges endorsed by flight examiner.

NO C-CAT at night are required to demonstrate instructional and flying competence at night to FE.

C-CAT NIGHT FLYING
10 hours night flying 5 PIC and must demo competence to FE.

A

Spinning - required to demonstrate competence in spinning to FE.

Aerobatics - demonstrate competence to FE in three basic aerobatic manoeuvres; loop, barrel roll, stall turn.

A

Hold current instrument rating.
50 hours PIC on xc IFR ops.
Attainment of this experience must be certified by FE.

B-CAT eligibility requirements A-H with additional 1.

A

A. Current CPL

B. Hold a C-CAT instructor rating

C. 500 hour flight time experience compromising specific flight experience that’s acceptable to the director.

D. If wanting to night fly, experience acceptable to director

E. Multi, experience acceptable to director.

F. Spinning or aerobatics, have experience acceptable to director

G. Passed oral exam in following areas - POF, met, XC nav techniques, practice and theory of flight instruction

H. Demonstrate to direction the ability to give flight instruction in appropriate category of aircraft in all normal and emergency flight manoeuvres by passing oral exam and flight test acceptable to director.

Additional - NZDF flight instructor qualification may be accepted to direction as meeting flight time experience required for b cat.

B-CAT currency requirements IFR xc and normal flight instruction and 60 day rule.

A

IFR - holds current IR and completed a minimum of 50 hours as PIC on IFR xc ops and been certified by FE.

Normal - Preceeding 12 months, demo competency to appropriately authorised FE, in accordance with flight test syllabus. FE who does competency check certifies successful completion in pilots logbook.

If done within 60 days before flight test then its deemed as been completed on the required date.

B. have a minimum of 200 hours flight time experience as a pilot
in the appropriate category of aircraft comprising specific flight
experience that is acceptable to the Director
C. if the person seeks to instruct at night, have night flight
experience acceptable to the Director
D. ) if the person seeks to instruct in multi-engine aircraft, have
multi-engine flight experience acceptable to the Director;
E. if the person seeks to instruct in spinning or aerobatic
manoeuvres in aeroplanes, have aerobatic experience acceptable
to the Director
F. have satisfactorily completed an approved course in the practice
and theory of flight instruction
G. have passed exams in Pof, met, nav, practice and theory of flight instruction
H. have a minimum of 25 hours dual flight instructor training or
approved equivalent
I. done a flight test demo competence to give flight instruction.
