A/53 General characteristics of neoplasms (benign, semimalignant, malignant and bordrline neoplasms)

A

The 8 + 2 features of neoplastic cells:

  1. autocrine pattern of growing: cell produce the ligand and the receptor for its own growing.
  2. resistance to apoptosis. The growth and size of the neoplasm is due to rate of proliferation and rate of apoptosis and necrosis.
  3. unlimited capacity to mitosis
  4. loss of differentiation
  5. capacity for angiogenesis by secretion of cytokines and humeral factors
  6. invasion of surrounding tissue: the property by which malignant tumor can grow into and at the expense of the surrounding tissue
  7. capacity for making distant metastasis
  8. Reprograming of cell metabolism
  9. independence of growth restricting signals
  10. evade from the immune system
