B. 38 DMN Flashcards

1
Q

History of DMN

A

-historically fMRI was used to find correlates for cognitive processes
-fmri is relative measure for activity
-resting state was used as baseline
HOWEVER
blood flow and activity have been reviewed and identified as DMN

->it is active by default without specific task

Q

Anti Correlational Networks

1

A

when one of these comes up the other one comes down

Positive:

  • associated with cognitive tasks
  • positive value in fMRI

Negative:

  • network subtracted from network of interest
  • mind wandering, resting state, memory

Neutral:
-activates with both negative and positive

Q

DMN in Psychopathology

A
  • altered in ASD: issues with self referential processing and theory of mind
  • can be hyperactive and over connected in depression, OCD and schizophrenia
  • in SZ unable to dampen down the DMN when need to do congnitive task (self commentary)
  • patients have difficulties switching between networks

Q

DMN in AD

A

DMN activity reduces in healthy ageing

> reduced activity in AD and participants with high amyloid burden
-DMN dominates processind
