B. 38 DMN Flashcards
History of DMN
-historically fMRI was used to find correlates for cognitive processes
-fmri is relative measure for activity
-resting state was used as baseline
HOWEVER
blood flow and activity have been reviewed and identified as DMN
->it is active by default without specific task
Anti Correlational Networks
1
when one of these comes up the other one comes down
Positive:
- associated with cognitive tasks
- positive value in fMRI
Negative:
- network subtracted from network of interest
- mind wandering, resting state, memory
Neutral:
-activates with both negative and positive
Positive Network
-Top Down attentional network (dorsal attention network)
-Bottom Up (ventral attention network)
and others
-lateral prefrontal and parietal areas
Negative Network
Medial prefrontal and parietal areas
! DMN
Neutral Network
primary senso and motor cortices
DMN in Psychopathology
- altered in ASD: issues with self referential processing and theory of mind
- can be hyperactive and over connected in depression, OCD and schizophrenia
- in SZ unable to dampen down the DMN when need to do congnitive task (self commentary)
- patients have difficulties switching between networks
DMN in AD
DMN activity reduces in healthy ageing
> reduced activity in AD and participants with high amyloid burden
-DMN dominates processind
